1999/2000 - Season Report
1999/2000 Squad

At the end of the 1998/1999 season, Miss Goodship from Thomas Alleynes High School in Stevenage had very kindly invited Scorpions to the school to hold an after-school training sessions for some of her girls. This had proved so successful that 10 girls subsequently signed for us and we were able to enter our 4th season with a larger squad.

We spent most of September getting the squad together and preparing for our 7-a-side tournament to be held at Datchworth RFC on 3rd October. The event was mainly for U16's but also had an experimental U18 section. We had an excellent turnout on the day with teams from Peterborough, Worcester, Leicester, Chinnor, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Brixham, Fullerians and Saracens. In the main U16 event, Brixham edged out Worcester in the first semi-final, whilst we beat Chinnor 24-0 in the other. The final was a very close match with Scorpions eventually running out 19-14 winners. Scorpions' captain Nicky Cameron received the impressive National Mutual shield from Wasps player, Lawrence Scrase.

After the 7's tournament, we then moved on to win 5 matches in a row, against Fullerians, Saracens, Chinnor, Peterborough and Milton Keynes and this proved to be enough for us to retain the RFUW National Winter Merit League.

We got the New Year off to a shaky start when, in retaliation for our previous 35-5 win, Chinnor thumped us 34-0. However, we soon recovered from this and got back to winning ways with consecutive wins over Fullerians (twice) and Saracens. On the final Sunday of the season, we drew a hard fought match with Peterborough. After a long wait, we were eventually confirmed as RFUW National Spring Merit League winners again.

To finish the season off, we went to the National 7's tournament at Worthing. We beat Oxford in our first match but then lost to Melton Mowbray and Harlequins. This meant we qualified for the plate tournament. We then beat "Perrins Herons", Oxford and, in the final, Gloucester to win the RFUW National 7's Plate.
