2002 Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony
|
To celebrate our first 5 years, we decided to replace our annual end-of-season awards BBQ with our first ever Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony. This also gave us a chance to say thanks and goodbye to our Chairman Dave Stokes who has now retired from the club after 5 years.
This historic event took place on Friday the 14th June at the Blakemore Thistle hotel near Great Wymondley. The girls were all asked to wear "smart, formal" dress and they certainly did themselves proud. Some were almost unrecognisable from the muddy little thugs who turn up on Sundays !
Current and past Scorpions players, all scrubbed up quite nicely thank you !
Before we started the awards part of the evening, Dave Stokes led everyone in a toast to our founder, Dave Clark, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Dave Clark was extremely proud of Scorpions and their achievements and had been very much looking forward to the Dinner Dance. He was a great friend of our club and will be very much missed by all who knew him.
After a few short and very funny speeches (as if !) from Dave Stokes and Craig, every Scorpion player, past and present, was presented with a commemorative plate to say thanks for their contribution to 5 wonderful seasons.
Never one to enjoy the spotlight, Alana quietly accepts her commemorative plate !
Following these presentations, we moved on to the individual player awards. The winners of each are as follows :
The Bunny Award (Squad Personality) |
|
Hannah Clark |
The Whitecross Shield (Players' Player of the Year) |
|
Sian Williams |
The Clubman Trophy (Outstanding Contribution to Club) |
|
Nicky Cameron |
The Chairman's Shield (Most Improved Player) |
|
Sarah Mckenna |
To mark his retirement and the tremendous contribution he has made to the club as Chairman, Dave Stokes was also presented with a large commemorative display which contained squad photos and results for each of the first 5 years and which was signed by players, coaches and committee members. Finally, the coaches, committee members and our media director ("Little" Craig - he's videoed almost every match in the whole 5 years) were presented with the brand new and highly coveted Scorpions RFC tie.
The formalities over, everyone then settled down to an evening of dancing, drinking and generally having a great time. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to make this a momentous and very memorable occasion. Here's to the next 5 years . . . . .

A group of very hard working Scorpions who also know how to enjoy themselves !
