Scorpions took their first steps into Senior rugby today with a visit to Harlow Ladies. A combination of holidays and injuries from last week's tournament left us with a depleted squad, but we were still able to play a good 10-a-side match.

The depleted squad for the first ever Scorpions Ladies match

We were a little nervous before the match as we basically had an U18/U19 squad whilst Harlow were a mixture of Ladies and U18s. However, Alex Pugh and Sheren Jellis led the way with solid tackling and some tremendous and very effective rucking. This, along with some excellent smuggling of the ball from rucks by Helen Sherriff, secured plenty of position for scrum-half Nicky Cameron. Nicky was then able to combine well with fly-half Vicky Coke to get the ball moving quickly to our other backs. It was here that we particularly had the edge in pace and Jo Whitten, Chloe Allcorn and Kosi Abdulai were able to punch holes in the tough Harlow defence and get the ball outside to the wings.

Kosi led the scoring with 7 tries, Chloe and Nicky got 2 apiece and Jo also scored in the corner. Nicky's conversions took our score to 66 whilst solid tackling, particluarly in midfield, kept our own try line secure.

A good start to Senior rugby, and one which we will be looking to build on with the return of the rest of the squad and some new recruits, particularly of the more "mature" variety !
